Construction of Ductile Iron Pipes in Winter or Rainy Season

Winter Construction

1. Bottom of trench and sand cushion: The ductile iron pipe shall be covered tightly and compacted in time according to the temperature, to prevent the pipe from freezing. Keep the workplace clear of snow and debris in time during the process of construction.

2. Frozen rubber rings and rubber pads shall not be used in winter construction.

Ductile Iron Pipes

3. Ductile iron pipe installation: In order to ensure good lubrication of the nozzle, the pipe joint should be fixed at positive temperature. After the pipe is installed, the working pit of the nozzle and both sides of the pipe shall be timely covered with thermal insulation materials to avoid the sand foundation from freezing. Constructors should take effective slip-resistant measures when installing the pipes.

4. During construction, anti-skid measures shall be taken for on-site transportation roads, operation fields, working platforms, climbing facilities, etc., and snow and ice shall be cleaned without delay.

5. During the spring thaw, check the stability of the trench slope, and take measures to protect earthwork collapse.

Rainy Season Construction

1. During the rainy season construction, it is necessary to protect the trench from being soaked by rainwater, which may cause pipe floatation accident. In order to prevent rainwater from entering the trench, backfilling shall be carried out on both sides of the laid ductile iron pipe except pipe joints.

2. Pipe joints should not be installed in rainy days. If construction is required, rainproof measures shall be taken to ensure that the nozzle and joint materials are not exposed to rain.

3. Reasonable shortening of the slot length, timely construction of inspection wells, close connection of each working procedure, continuous construction, and timely backfilling after acceptance of installed ductile iron pipes. Flood control ridges should be set along the trench to stop rain from entering it.

4. After the completion of construction every day, the nozzles at both ends of each section shall be sealed to prevent mud from entering the pipe. Dig drainage ditches and set sumps on both sides of the foundation trench to promptly eliminate the accumulated water in the trench.
